Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert sing about love, relationships, revenge, infidelity, lies and breakups almost every day. For the most part, those are just words in a song, but those songs seem to be finding their way into real life for the married Country singers.
According to recent reports, infidelity and lies are the two main reasons that Lambert is considering filing for divorce from Shelton.
Sources close to the couple told The ENQUIRER that Lambert is concerned with infidelity on the part of her husband. She claims that Shelton has cheated in the past and lied about it.
With the couple in the public spotlight, Lambert has seen paparazzi photographs that seem to support those allegations. A source told the magazine that Lambert isn’t going to let him “humiliate her in public.”
Of course, there is the other side of the story.
Shelton has told reporters that the infidelity allegations are simply allegations. He said that he hasn’t had a relationship with any of the “The Voice” contestants or his co-workers on the show — some of which were the subjects of the photographs. He also claims that it was her past relationships with men who have a criminal record that have led to the marital breakdown.
Musicians often own multiple homes in multiple jurisdictions, and so “where to file” isn’t always a given. In this case, reports claim that Oklahoma, Texas and California are all options for Lambert.
Where one files for divorce does make a difference. For example, Texas is a community property state — a theory that grants a 50/50 interest split for all marital assets. On the other hand, Oklahoma is an equitable distribution state — a theory that considers other factors in a fairness determination.
