Attorney Richard Lybarger brings a unique and powerful perspective to the Scott M. Brown & Associates team. As a vital member of our team of attorneys, Richard is a seasoned litigator with a legal career spanning four decades who has truly walked in his clients’ shoes. Licensed to practice in Texas in 1986, Richard navigated the rigors of law school at St. Mary’s University as a single, custodial father. This experience forged his deep-seated empathy for parents fighting to balance their children’s needs with the demands of a changing life. This personal history serves as the foundation of his practice, allowing him to offer guidance that is as compassionate as it is legally formidable.
Richard’s extensive background is reinforced by an uncommonly diverse professional history that gives him a distinct advantage in divorce cases involving high-stakes financial interests. He holds a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Trinity University and previously worked as a Respiratory Therapist. His experience as a former real estate broker and his extensive coursework in accounting provide him with the technical “vision” necessary to deconstruct complex property divisions and financial disclosures. While many can process paperwork, Richard uses his years of wisdom to provide the dispassionate, strategic analysis required to navigate high-stakes litigation and protect his clients’ long-term financial health.
Having grown up without a father and successfully raised his son as a single parent, Richard understands the emotional and financial weight of family law matters. He is acutely aware of the costs involved, both emotional and monetary, and views his role as a wise counselor who guides families through the “fog” of divorce toward a stable future. He doesn’t just represent clients; he helps them find the strength and clarity needed to make life-altering decisions during their most difficult moments.
Richard is a dedicated advocate for families throughout the Houston metro area, specifically serving the Sugar Land and Fort Bend County communities. His approach combines the psychological insight of his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University with the grit of a veteran trial lawyer. Whether resolving a case through mediation or advocating in the courtroom, Richard remains committed to the highest standards of integrity, ensuring every client receives the individual attention and sophisticated representation that are the hallmarks of Scott M. Brown & Associates at all our office locations.
